Windsor Locks Special Olympics

Windsor Locks Special Olympics is a year-round program that provides sports training and competition for persons with special needs starting at age 8 – adult (there is no upper age limit). WL Special Olympics is now in its 25th year. It has grown tremendously over the years both in the number of participants and the program we offer. We offer year-round programs – track/field and cycling in the spring, croquet and bocce in the summer, basketball and bowling in the fall, floor hockey in the winter, and a unified fitness program. We have around 40 athletes and equally as many unified partners who participate.  All our programs are unified.  A unified partner is a non-disabled person who is paired with a person(s) with disabilities to train and compete together as a team. Through the unified experience, athletes have the opportunity to improve their sports/athletic skills, communication, and behavioral/social skills and develop friendships through their interaction with their partner(s). For each of the 4 seasons participants practice weekly for 10-12 weeks and compete in a divisioning/time trial and state games competitions.

Our Windsor Locks Special Olympic program relies on our fundraising efforts, donations and the support of the WL Recreation Dept. and our community.
